Why we built a Task Manager: Identifying "Zombie Processes"
Web apps often hide "zombie processes" that eat your RAM and CPU. Learn how weballoon’s new Task Manager helps you identify and kill them before they slow down your Mac or Linux.
Read moreA behind-the-scenes look at weballoon v1.0.5. Explore the performance optimizations and new features designed to make your macOS and Linux desktop experience even calmer.
While v1.0.5 introduces visible features like Floatie and the Notification Panel, much of the work in this release happened where you can’t see it. We spent this cycle focusing on the "feel" of the app—reducing latency, tightening memory management, and ensuring that weballoon stays lightweight even as your workspace grows. Our goal isn't just to add features; it's to refine the environment so the software stays out of your way.
We’ve made several core improvements to the shell architecture for both macOS and Linux:
One of the biggest shifts in v1.0.5 is the transition from "Mystery" to "Control." We realized that for a desktop to be truly "calm," you need to know exactly what is happening with your hardware. The new Task Manager isn't just a list of numbers; it’s a direct response to user feedback. It gives you the transparency needed to understand which web apps are performing well and which ones need a "refresh." We believe that performance is a two-way street: we provide the optimized shell, and we give you the tools to manage your specific apps.
Version 1.0.5 is a foundational update. By stabilizing the core resource management and introducing granular controls like Proxy settings and PIN protection, we’ve built the platform needed for the next generation of weballoon features. We are committed to the philosophy that a desktop app should be fast, private, and—most importantly—quiet. Thank you for being part of the journey toward a calmer web.
